One Saturday Bob Jones and I decided to go rabbit hunting, we made ourselves lunches and left early in the morning. When we got back to his home at about seven in the evening we found that the Jap’s had bombed Pearl Harbor. In those days no television, only radio and Wenatchee had only one station.
When the President (Kennedy) was killed I was delivering milk to the schools in East Wenatchee. When I went into my last school stop the cooks told me about it. I could not believe that it had happened. How could something like this had happened. How could something like this occur in our homeland. It was unthinkable. The next Sunday as we were getting ready for church, television showed them bringing Oswald out of his cell for questioning. Wambo he was assassinated right inside the Dallas Police Station. Now we have news as it happens. CNN will have a camera crew on site within fifteen minutes and the coverage will be ongoing for days. Within minutes of the last plane crash we had coverage before the crash recovery crews could get to the scene.
At the last war the camera crews outnumbered the troops. We had CNN crews living with the enemy (in Baghdad).
It is deplorable how our young children (in school) are so prone to violence. How can a young school kid ten, eleven, twelve or thirteen pick up a rifle or shot gun and proceed to kill and seem to have no remorse for their actions. Maybe it is the steady diet of violence from the media. They do not seem to realize how dead people can be from such acts.
