This was a first attempt to let all of us know more about our family background. Living away from the valley for most of my adult life it has been difficult to maintain family ties. The routine family events of my own time growing up as a family member is totally different from what I could provide as a parent. I think every parent doubts his own ability because we know what mistakes we make, yet we do not know some of the effects until later. I hope my own mistakes are as small as my own parents and theirs before them. My own children have grown into adults with only a few chances to get to know family out side of our nuclear group. Living first as a nomad with the United States Air Force then choosing to work for Civil Service in Oklahoma has made for a different experience. Jane and I had to depend on each other for the last thirty years as a family unit. It has been even harder to tell my own children much about my own family and some of the events and places that shaped it. There never seems to be a good time unless we are gathered together as a clan. Then you can recall, laugh at situations, and events. In many cases I simply did not know what I did not know. I have to thank Dad for his efforts to fill the gap. As a student of history I had not read or heard others detail some of his insights since he was at the events as they unfolded. I hope as you read this you have a chance to reflect and in some cases find out more on your own.
