My daughter Mary was studying history (World War II) in the Summer of 1999. She wanted some first hand information on the war and asked her Grandfather to send her some thoughts about his war experience. The project was further pushed by my daughter Monica who was documenting the effect of volcano’s and asked for insight from the Mt. St. Helen’s eruption. Both are in their senior year at the University of Oklahoma. I left the Wenatchee valley in 1969 with only an occasional trip home in the last thirty years. The memories still linger. To the greatest extent possible, I have left the wording intact as written by my dad. Any information I have added is in Times New Roman type. The original words are in CSMS. I have taken liberties in moving thoughts together from different letters. The core document was the World War II section.
